To celebrate my birthday last week I tried to find my most natural, free, uninhibited self in my video She Blossoms After 50: Birthday Celebration Ideas for the Best Half of Your Life.
The bad news is that I failed. As usual, I constantly overanalyzed my word choices, judged my tips, and worried what people would think. I love making videos and believe they’re helpful, but I’m still struggling to find myself in front of the camera.
The good news is that even though I haven’t found me, I know how I found you.
A few days ago I received this lovely email from a lovely French (Quebecois?) subscriber:
“I enjoyed finding out who you are, what you have done. You are a brave courageous person. Thanks for sharing your positivism about life! But I am just curious how you found my email address?”
If you have the same question, you’re in the same boat as 5,000 other people. Good thing it’s a big boat.
How we found each other
Two years ago I had over 6,000 newsletter subscribers, and couldn’t afford to pay MailChimp’s fees for so many people. Many subscribers were “inactive”, which means they never saw or opened any of my emails.
Why pay for ghosts?
So I reduced my list to the 1,000 most active subscribers on MailChimp. That meant I lost touch with some people who actually were “active” but were someone mislabeled.
But She Blossoms keeps growing! We climbed back up to 2,000 subscribers—and our cheeky little monkey raised her rates again. So I learned how to run a newsletter database from my own She Blossoms website. I imported all my prior subscribers from MailChimp, and voila! Here we are.
You’re getting this email because in the last several years you signed up for my free weekly She Blossoms email on one of my blogs. I’ve written about almost everything: love, dogs, careers, infertility, writing, family problems, eating disorders and gifts for people who are dying.
Or we’re friends in real life and you still like me 🙂
No matter how we met, my friend, I’m glad you’re here and hope we stay in touch.
With love,
Laurie

Hi Laurie, I love to read of your adventures and insight into life’s ups and downs!
There’s always a fresh new idea and way of looking at life with you, thank you for joining me again. SuzAnne.
Thank you, SuzAnne. It’s great to be back in touch!
Great, I’m here to learn more.
Thank you.
Love your view of life. I am a retired teacher and enjoy the outdoors. When I coached baseball, one of my fondest memories is the lushness and deep green color of the grass.
Please keep me on your list.
Best regards,
Victor
Great, thanks Vic! I’m glad you’re still with me 🙂
